Training Philosophy and Methods
Ways of Learning
People learn in different ways and in a variety of styles. We leverage these
differences to address the various needs of our attendees.
Our
presentations mix it up to encourage participation and make the
experience more engaging for the entire group. We use all the senses: seeing,
hearing, and moving in our training. Even more importantly, we engage the mind.
Controlling the program environment is an important part of
our methods. While we usually train on-site, we insist on a room that fits the
size of the group, allowing the participants not only to sit and write, but to move around
and get into groups to work through activities. Given the proper environment, our
methods can work with groups of hundreds of people, although the ideal group
size is 40–60 people.
We encourage participation on the part of everyone in the
presentation. We encourage people to share their experiences during a variety of
exercises by rewarding participation—by giving out little token prizes throughout
the session. We also encourage participation in teams and group competitions,
allowing attendees to become more directly involved.
We focus on relevance to real existing problems and
opportunities. Every organization faces specific competitive challenges. The people working on the surface of an organization meet those challenges
on a day-to-day and even task-to-task basis. The general competitive challenges
of the organization and its competitors are addressed by
our trainers. The attendees are challenged to
illustrate those challenges with their real-world experiences.
We tailor the program to the organization and the attendees. Every
session is tailored to your organization’s competitive situation and each
attendee’s needs. Prior to the session, our trainers identify the
key factors that make your organization’s competitive position unique. At the
beginning of the session, our trainers ask attendees what challenges they face
and what they need to learn, and record their answers. Throughout the session,
specific points on that list are addressed. At the end of the
session, our trainers go through the list and confirm that the attendees
received answers to all of their most pressing questions.
Part of a larger learning experience. Every Institute program
includes components of on-line learning and suggested reading material. Our
on-line tools continually test and give each participant feedback on his or her progress
in mastering the diverse skills of strategy.
