Climbing the Speaking Ladder

Speaking engagements are more plentiful and easier to get at the lowest levels. They are rarer and the market is much more competitive at the highest levels. Interestingly, however, there is money to be made at every level. You want to start at the lowest level for a lot of practical reasons, but the goal is not to move to the highest levels. The goal is to develop your own unique sweet spot in the speaking marketplace.

In exploring these organizations, we are going to look at five questions: What is the opportunity? Why are affiliated organizations important? Where do you find these groups?  How to you get invited to speak? How do you make money?

None of these opportunities should be considered “disposable.” Whenever you speak, you want to get invited back again and again, year after year. As you move up the ranks, you may not be able to continue to work the lower levels, but you never abandon a position at a lower level until your position at a higher level is secured.

We explore ten different types of customers; each is a higher level as you rise through the ranks of speaking.
