ShowcasesWhat is the opportunity? Showcases charge speakers a fee to present 10 minutes of their material for an audience of “speaker’s circuit” promoters. It is basically a “cattle call.” Most promoters that organize presentations schedules within these colleges and high schools use showcases to find speakers. Some promoters for business events do as well. Some showcases are attended by speakers’ agencies and agents. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND SHOWCASES, BUT THEY MAY WORK FOR SOME. Why are affiliated organizations important? I am not sure they are. Mostly they are a way of making money for the showcase organizers, though they do put you in contact with promoters. Quality of showcases vary dramatically. Where do you find these groups? Do a web search. They also run advertisement in various media. How to you get invited to speak? Pay the fee. How do you make money? You are “discovered” by people who are willing to pay you to speak or find engagements at which you are paid to speak, collecting a percentage. |
