Speakers Bureaus and AgentsWhat is the opportunity? These groups promoter speakers, taking a percentage of their speaking fee for booking them. Larger organizations go to bureaus to find speakers when they are looking for them. Why are speakers bureaus and agents important? They are of marginal importance, but they usually don’t cost you anything unless they book you for a “speech for fee” engagement. I qualify for this level of speaking, but I have never bothered to join any (though I probably should). Where do you find these groups? We will be publishing a list, but you can also find them easily on the web. How to you get invited to join? You usually need an interesting topic, the more focused the better, a list of good references, a demonstration video, a four color brochure that they can sell from, and charge a minimum of $3,000 per speech. How do you make money? You get paid for the speech and travel. The agent or bureau takes from 15-25% in fees to book. |
